Devastating and Severe Budget Cuts

Our Ulster County budget has been released.

$346 million budgeted for next year, along with a 2.7 percent tax levy increase.

Governor Paterson's budget for New York State that is getting ready to be released was described in broad terms as "devastating" and "severe" to state services.

How is it that our County finds it OK to increase our taxes and not change the way we do business now, when we know what is coming down the road?

Governor Paterson knows that we need to make some cuts.

Where are the the "devastating" and "severe" cuts in Ulster County?

It's time to change. Isn't that what we voted for with the charter?

So far it looks like more of the same old same to me.

I could have told you that you were not going to get change with Hein and Auerbach, but to many people supported them. Good luck Ulster County. The next three years are going to get even worse.

All those tax cuts that Patterson is putting through. We will see them in our local taxes next year.

Thats all these guys do is pass the buck (or the tax bill as the case maybe). All of them talk about cutting spending, but they won't cut the programs that the money is being spent on. The feds and state will pass on education mandates to local boards, the state will pass on welfare costs and other social programs to the county, then the county passes on elections costs to the town, and all of them claim that they are cutting spending when what they are really doing is letting some one else give you the bill.

Then to top it off they congratulate themselves by finding more to spend on. NY cut the heck out of corrections officers and civilians, but just created a new deputy commissioner complete with all the perks, and you should see the perks (didn't see any member item cuts did we). The county just supposedly cut all kinds of spending but now they supposedly want to drop 600k on office renovations.

But stupid me said to vote them all out. I am glad we didn't, this way will work much better.
