Hein's plan to make more plans

It looks like Mike Hein is mastering the scam of looking like you are doing something even if you are doing nothing. This is one of the strategies that comes out of the axiom "perception is reality" that guides the Clintons.

The media loves all of this. Take for example how much praise Gov. Arnold got for handing out bottled water during the fires in California. Actual value in putting out the fires: ZERO. Perceived value: Priceless.

I love #5 the best. I am glad after all these years that someone has finally thought we should develop tech city.

And I thought that leaving it a vacant wreck all these years added to the character of our area. I am glad that this county government came along and set me straight.

Does this mean the County is going to BUY Tech City and take it off the Town of Ulster Tax Rolls?

We will get screwed again!

Have any proof the county planning board is obstructionist?

Please provide specific examples where it denies development. I'd be sooo curious to see if you could actually find it.

Please actually back up what you say rather than throw hearsay to the wind.

7:33... where's your proof that they have done anything? You can be obstructionist by simply doing nothing.

There has been ZERO economic development in this county for years?

Did you read Ulster Mojo? The whole post is about the lack of economic development in this county.

If things were going so great, why did Hein empanel a special economic development task force. The answer is because he doesn't know what to do to bring companies to our county - and neither does his planning department.

I think the biggest problem of the Ulster Planning Department is not necessarily acts of commission, but rather acts of omission.

I don't see anyone from the Hein camp working to help AVR or Canopy in Rosendale. They are just sitting back and letting them flounder. They aren't necessarily being obstructionist - they just aren't helping, and we need help in this county.

Also how can the head of the Planning Department also serve on the Board of Directors of organizations whose sole purpose is not to develop land? That would seem rather obstructionist. Being too cozy with the environmental crazies is not a good place for a County Planner to be.

I agree with the author of this blog. Fire them all and contract the work to Greene County. Greene County kicks a$$ in economic development and attracting companies to their county. Just ask anyone who works for Colony - or Mayor Sottile who went up there to congratulate them on stealing Colony from us.

How about the county planning blocking the Hilton on the traffic circle, or asking for the hampton Inn in New Paltz to go back to the county, or AVR Canopy , Bellayre Enough already STOP fuire them all bring in people who really want development and economic growth and be sure they take March with them

IDA solution, simple: stop kissing labor's get out the vote ass and toss the prevailing wage.

The task force was window dressing for the masses. Mike keeps this up, who knows, he could end up in an Albany Mansion.

Say what you want, Mike knows how to run the show. In the end, that's all government is, a big circus.

Our problem is that we apply business sense to government and get nuts over stupid decisions. We need to breath in the paid air of government and exhale a relaxed who cares job.

Politically, Mike's a star, he will soar through UC now that he has his own podium. He was smart enough to know that he could succeed only in government. Look at his 1st day, all proud that he was in to work early, 8:15am. WOW. Hell, show up at 8:15 a few times in my building and your marked for termination. 12 hour days are standard in the corporate world and my guess is that business owners start a couple hours before 8:15am. Wow.

10:01 Why is it that anyone who cares about the environment is a crazy?
It is possible to be pro business AND pro environment at the same time.....really...yeah it is.
Nothing wrong with asking business to be environmentally aware.

This was the funniest thing you have ever written. Obviously with a huge assist from the know nothing squad Hein put together....Funny but sad.

I was disappointed in Hein's press release and the report in the Times Hearld Record. But the Hein is in hard place the majority of the problem lies with NY State and not with Ulster County. The county government should be focus on what are the barriers that creates for job creation and location in Ulster not a Council of Economic Advisors, or taking Federal Funds, or a guide for municipalities. Meet with the business people of Ulster county. Each town's chamber of commerce. Find common problem that county goverment creates and eliminate them. Rinse Repeat.

I would highly recommend to everyone as opposed to complaining about the county planning board, that you perhaps visit and find out what they do and/or attend one of their meetings.

You'll get a far better appreciation of the process and what the dept actually does that way.
